Aerosmith’s new single is called “Legendary Child.” They performed it along with “Walk This Way” on the season finale of American Idol. We’ve got a really crappy version of it for you to watch. We apologize for the quality, but no one’s uploaded a better one yet.

This morning, Boston’s bad boys Aerosmith hit L.A. for a press conference to announce their upcoming “Global Warming” tour. Singer Steven Tyler, guitarist Joe Perry, bassist Tom Hamilton and drummer Joey Kramer looked comfortable with each other (a relief to fans, after a well documented schism between Tyler and the rest of the group), and talked about the tour, American Idol and, of course, hamsters. (Guitarist Brad Whitford wasn’t present because he is in Kansas City on the Experience Hendrix tour, alongside Jimi Hendrix bassist Billy Cox, Chris Layton of Double Trouble and Taj Majal, among others).

The “Global Warming” tour will make its way through 18 markets in the U.S. Tyler explained the tour’s name: “We’ve been setting fires and putting them out our whole career… so we just like to light fires under people’s asses and what better title than ‘Global Warming.’ Everyone’s been dancing around the tribal fires of rock and roll forever.” Tom Hamilton puts it more simply: he says Aerosmith is “Bringing heat to the people.”

Cheap Trick will open on the first leg of the tour, and Hamilton points out that “They’re one of those bands where you kind of forget how many great songs they have. So when you come to a show and hear them they say ‘Oh yeah, those are the guys that do that song, right!’ It’s just going to be one after another of really great songs.”

One question that was on the minds of many of the fans, and the press: when will the band release a new record (their last new release was 2004′s Honkin’ On Bobo, which was mostly covers; their last album of new material was 2001′s Just Push Play). The band said that there are two more songs left to complete before mixing on the new album begins. Tyler assured fans that “it’s going to be stupid good.” They said the album should be out in three months.

The band joked about how “totally impossible” their frontman is to work with now that he’s on American Idol. The event ended with a discussion of the most unusual thing thrown onto their stage over the years. Hamilton recounted both when a hamster was thrown on stage and then another incident when a prosthetic leg made its way up and ended up decorating the drum riser for the remainder of the show.

Tyler ended the conference assuring Aerosmith fans that “We will not let you down.”

The tour kicks off June 16 at the Target Center in Minneapolis, MN.

Jon Anderson and the band he used to front, Yes, went their separate ways four years ago. But his latest projects are of interest to Yes fans: his most recent release, “Open,” is a four movement, 20 minute song available as a digital download. In 2010, Anderson and former Yes keyboardist Rick Wakeman released an album together, The Living Tree, and last year toured and put out The Living Tree In Concert Part One (Part Two will be released later this year).

But what might really excite fans is the rumor that Anderson and Wakeman have been working with yet another Yes alumni: guitarist/singer/songwriter Trevor Rabin. Anderson confirms that the project is in the works: “We talked about it, we wrote a couple of things together, Trevor got sidetracked, we talked about this year. We haven’t really finalized a time. It’ll happen when it happens. That’s my new mantra: ‘It will happen when it happens.’”

Jon Anderson Talks Yes [VIDEO]

Although Wakeman and Rabin weren’t on any of the same Yes studio recordings, Anderson notes that they got along when they were part of the eight man Yes tour of 1991. But Anderson reveals that there was tension between Rabin and the band’s other guitarist, Steve Howe, during that trek: “A classic moment was when Steve came over to me and he said, ‘Can you tell Trevor to turn it down?’ So I said ‘OK…’ I went over to him and said ‘Trevor, you’re doing very well!’ I left it at that, I didn’t want to get involved! But that was a great tour, and thankfully we did it.”

If the idea of ex-Yes members forming a band and touring while Yes is still active sounds familiar, there’s that’s because it’s happened before. In the late ’80s, Anderson, Wakeman, Howe and former Yes drummer Bill Bruford formed Anderson Bruford Wakeman & Howe, released a very Yes-like album (including artwork by famed Yes artist Roger Dean) and toured, playing mostly Yes songs. So, the question is, is there any chance of Anderson, Wakeman and Rabin hitting the road and playing Yes songs? “No, I don’t think so.”

The spirit of classic Yes lives in Anderson’s “Open,” and he says he plans to keep putting out epic-length songs on his own. “I worked on it last year on a acoustic guitar. I started putting different songs together, and it became 20 minutes long. I was very pleased. I’ve always wanted to keep doing long pieces, I think I’ll do one every other year now. I’ve actually finished my second piece, which is called ‘Evermore,’ ‘Forever’ or ‘Ever-something.’”

Another ongoing series of music Anderson has been working on is his Survival & Other Stories albums, which sees him collaborating with fans via his website. “I put an advert on my website asking for music. Musicians from all over the world — people from Australia, New Zealand, Italy, France, Germany, Holland, Los Angeles and Liverpool — sent me music. I picked out all the ones I thought I could work with. I have up to five or six hours of music ranging from radio songs to longer form pieces to children’s musicals to a couple of crazy operas about crazy things. I’m jumping right around the musical globe from world music to classical music to acoustic songs. I’m actually going to put out another volume later this year.”

As for the possibility of rejoining Yes, Anderson is hopeful, albeit with managed expectations. “We’ll see what happens in the future. I’d never say no, if it happens with good will and honesty and Rick’s there, I’d love to do it. I bumped into a good friend who says he’d love to produce it. And I said ‘Well, good luck!’ We’ll all keep our fingers crossed.”

Stevie Nicks recently announced tour dates this summer with Rod Stewart, prolonging her stay on the road in support of her 2011 release, In Dreams. Mick Fleetwood believes Nicks’ constant efforts towards her solo career is the reason a Fleetwood Mac reunion stalled. It may also squash any hopes of the band reuniting in the future as well.

Fleetwood Mac Denying Recording Rumors

“I don’t believe Fleetwood Mac will ever tour again, but I really hope we do,” Mick said, according Daily Telegraph.

The band planned to reunite for a major world tour in 2010 after trekking through Australia in 2009. Solo albums from Lindsey Buckingham and Nicks (which Mick played drums on) brought Fleetwood Mac’s momentum to a halt, but hopes still rested on the idea of gathering the troops in 2011. The band, sans Nicks, even spent most of 2010 preparing themselves for the stage.

“We have rehearsed and prepared for it since 2010. We were supposed to tour in 2011, but we delayed it for a year to allow Stevie Nicks to support her solo record and for Lindsey Buckingham to do the same with his.”

Fleetwood has always been supportive of other band members solo efforts, but it appears he may be at the end of his rope regarding Nicks, who seems consumed by her personal project.

“I understand what she likes about her situation: Touring in support of her album, she is able to be her, without any degree of compromise. She doesn’t have to worry about the other three of us asking her to do anything… She has become obsessed with her album in a very nice but inconvenient way.”
