On December 16th of 1983, a spokesperson for the Who announced that “they were disbanding.” The band ended up reuniting in 1989, but before then, Carter Alan witnessed Pete Townshend‘s burned out state firsthand.
A year prior to the band’s temporary breakup, Carter saw the Who in Worcester, and remembers how different Townshend seemed backstage. Watch him recall the night in his Rock Talk video above.
Carter also made some recommendations for those looking to explore the Who’s live albums. “You would do a great service to me by forgetting there ever was a (the) Who live album called Who’s Last,” Carter shared bluntly. The Who’s Live at Leeds or Live at the Isle of Wight, however, he highly recommends.
