Some bands pull cues from places that would surprise people. Yes, at first listen they don’t seem apparent, but the closer you look the more you start to pick up a faint nod to the most unlikely places. Those strange bedfellows often end up pairing to produce some insanely powerful sounds. As they say, “Don’t judge a book by its cover” and that couldn’t be any truer for the artist… WEDNESDAY 13.
With his solo career and time fronting the now disbanded group the MURDERDOLLS, Wednesday 13 has helped push the genre of Horror Punk forward but his interests have taken cues from classic rock pioneers such as ALICE COOPER and KISS all the way to the Hardcore titans HATEBREED. That might not seem too far off course for this ghostly feigned artist, but when you think about the connection on the album that was recently recorded with Massachusetts’ own producer Chris “Zeuss” Harris, you might be taken aback. That connection is the band JOURNEY! You might be thinking what in the hell does Journey have to do with Wednesday 13?! Well, the recently recorded album has none other than once Journey drummer Deen Castronovo on it. Yes I thought the same thing you might be right now…”What the Hell?!” It seems that Wednesday 13’s current drummer is none other than Castronovo’s son Kyle! Yah, take a minute to let that one sink in.
SIXX STRINGS recently had a chance to sit down with WEDNESDAY 13 during his tour stop at Cambridge’s Middle East Restaurant and Nightclub to discuss his upcoming album Condolences, recording locally, the push to get bigger, and Deen Castronovo’s interest in his music. Take a listen to our conversation and remember that sometimes amazing music can come from the strangest places.
