  • 1976: Wings performed in Venice, Italy to bring attention to the decay of the city. Ironically, the weight of their equipment caused substantial damage to St. Marks Square, the location of the concert.
  • 1979: Elton John’s manager was charged with assault and battery after hitting a doorman with a cane at a San Francisco hotel. John Reid was sentenced to a crime diversion program.
  • 1980: John Bonham, Led Zeppelin’s drummer, died when he choked in his sleep after a drinking binge at Jimmy Page’s home outside London.
  • 1981: The Rolling Stones kicked off their Tattoo You tour in Philadelphia at JFK Stadium. Journey and George Thorogood warmed up.
  • 1996: Speaking of the Stones, drummer Charlie Watts became a grandfather when his daughter Seraphina gave birth to a baby girl.
  • 1997: The FBI released the files it had on John Lennon. The agency wouldn’t release the material for years citing national security. The material showed that Lennon had anti-war friends and opposed the election of Richard Nixon (like we didn’t know!).

  • 1978: Bruce Springsteen was also at the Garden.
  • 1991: The Grateful Dead played the Garden. They would reappear two years later on the very same date!
