Gene Simmons Passes On Alcohol, And Here’s Why

While the band KISS preaches the gospel message of “rock & roll all night” and “partying every day,” front man Gene Simmons says all of that can be achieved without the assistance of booze.

Simmons tells the Los Angeles Times that he swore off alcohol and drugs at an early age, for the love of his mother, a Holocaust survivor.

“I’m my mother’s only child, I was concerned I had no right to harm my mother. Life did that enough,” he says in an interview with the LA Times.

“I literally never drink. Privately or publicly. I simply don’t like the taste or the smell of anything with alcohol in it,” he said. “I have never been drunk in my life and have never taken more than a sip of anything, and hated it every time. I will toast just to be social, but that’s it.”

While Simmons says he isn’t here to judge others’ habits or convince anyone to put down the bottle, he credits his abstention as being part of his success story.

Simmons and KISS are currently on their Freedom to Rock tour, which finishes up October 29th at Mohegan Sun in Connecticut.
