On this day in 1970, Duane Allman of the Allman Brothers Band began a 10 day recording session with Derek and the Dominos on what would eventually be the Layla album.

When Eric Clapton formed Derek and the Dominos, he was trying to get away from the rockstar godlike worship that he had gotten himself into in Cream and Blind Faith. He was uncomfortable with being a rockstar, and just wanted to play the blues.
