Earlier this week, Slash celebrated his 51st birthday in the unlikeliest of places — onstage with Guns N’ Roses. After rocking the MetLife stadium in New Jersey for two nights, the guitar guru decided to spend his time off rehearsing some GNR tracks. You’re probably thinking — typical Slash, right? Well, this rehearsal was a little different.
Yesterday, Slash put on his professor hat (under his top hat, of course), and joined the students of the School of Rock broadway musical cast for a jam session during their rehearsal. Watch Rolling Stone’s video below to see Slash play “Sweet Child O’ Mine” and “Paradise City” alongside the band’s guitar prodigy Zack (Brandon Niederauer) and lead singer Tomika (Bobbi MacKenzie).
After crashing their rehearsal, Slash spent some time with the mini rockers. “It was really cool to meet such an enthusiastic and talented bunch of young rock ‘n’ rollers,” he told told Rolling Stone. “They were great kids as well as players.”
With the Not In This Lifetime Tour landing in Atlanta, Georgia this evening, the odds of Slash making an appearance during a School of Rock musical performance are slim. However, if you’re planning on being in Disney World between July 28th and July 30th, I’d keep a lookout for Slash, because he made reference to the Magic Kingdom’s Haunted Mansion ride on his birthday.
