Rock Talk With Carter: With the Death of The Yardbirds Came the Birth of Led Zeppelin

On this day in 1968, The Yardbirds broke up, and Jimmy Page went on to form Led Zeppelin. If you aren’t familiar with The Yardbirds, you’ve most likely heard of some of its key players. Do Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, or Jimmy Page ring a bell?

You have also probably heard of their song “I’m Confused,” which of course later became Led Zeppelin’s “Dazed and Confused.” To hear a live version of The Yardbirds’ original version of the song, see below.

When The Yardbirds quit, they still had tour dates to fulfill, so Jimmy Page took Led Zeppelin, AKA “The New Yardbirds” out on the road for the remaining dates.
