As we get older, we look back at our life experiences and events and how they have shaped us as a person. Who are we really? Are we still the person we thought we would become? Is our past what has defined us? Would we change anything if we had the opportunity? Well for one band, they are happy right where they are… regardless of their collective pasts. And you know what? They seem to have landed exactly where they were always meant to be!
The band THE DEAD DAISIES are on a mission, a mission of going on stage and kicking some major ass! They are making a statement regardless of what bands or histories their members came from. When you look at the line-up of this band you might ask yourself if this is a super group of sorts? Well with members that have come from WHITESNAKE, Mötley Crüe, THIN LIZZY, BILLY IDOL, GUNS N’ ROSES, DIO, THE CULT, MINK, THE ROLLING STONES, and INXS, you might say that. But in all reality, this band is one all unto its own regardless of their player’s pedigree. This isn’t some old dog learning new tricks though. This is a wiser animal that is showing you that the tricks you lost sight of were damn good to begin with! The one thing that is clearly apparent with The Dead Daisies is that they are checking the self-inflated drama of yesteryear. Vocalist JOHN CORABI stated that… “I’m too old for B.S., I’m too old for egos, including my own” when looking back, and where he is now.
This all-star ensemble not only play with a vigorous mystique that is rare nowadays, but they have embraced the old school rock and roll formula of making and recording music such as the legends of DEEP PURPLE and LED ZEPPELIN did. Fast and furious was the rule of thumb. There was no time to overthink anything so pure emotion was all that was left. “Recording fast didn’t give us time to overthink anything. We went with our gut…” said Corabi about their most recent trip to the studio with Nashville producer Marti Frederiksen of Aerosmith, Gavin Rossdale, Mötley Crüe, and Buckcherry fame. The Dead Daisies are getting ready to release their third album “MAKE SOME NOISE” on August 5th and embarking on a massive tour with none other than the almighty KISS! Their schedule starts in Europe and then takes on the US before they jet off to Japan and then Mexico for the KISS KRUISE. The Dead Daises play 3 stops here in New England (September 3rd DCU Center, Worcester, MA; September 4th Cross Insurance Arena, Portland, ME; and September 7th Webster Bank Arena, Bridgeport, CT) so there is no excuse for not getting to one of their shows!
SIXX STRINGS had a chance to catch up with THE DEAD DAISIES’ vocalist John Corabi while he and the band were practicing in NYC before leaving on tour; to talk about influences, recording, and bringing back what might be lost in music. Take a listen, ponder where your life has brought you, and surely check out this band’s crusade to bring back Rock-n-Roll!
