Sunday Morning Blues: June 5th, 2016

Happy Sunday Morning Blues Show #851 to you! We began with a birthday tribute to the late, great Howlin’ Wolf.

Born Chester Burnett, the Wolf was a huge man with a huge voice! Part of the legendary Chess Studio roster of regulars, he wrote and recorded many of the most remembered blues songs in history: “Killing Floor” and “Sitting on Top of the World” just two examples. Most of the rest were Willie Dixon standards he took into the charts.

The great man was born on June 10, 1910 and we lost him January 1976; in between, he left a legacy that you can find on a variety of albums. Check out “The London Howlin’ Wolf Sessions” to start, featuring sidemen including Eric Clapton, Steve Winwood and Bill Wyman & Charlie Watts from the Rolling Stones. You can’t go wrong with that one!
