Sunday Morning Blues: May 29th, 2016

Wow! We’re finally passing through the gateway to the summer! On this Memorial Day weekend, we remember our veterans who make this life in America possible while we also enjoy the thankful return of warm weather!

One our late blues music veterans was born on May 28, 1910 and we began the show with a salute to him. T-Bone Walker was one of the earliest guitarists to plug in and push the genre from the folk blues of the Delta plantations to the urban centers of the country, especially Chicago. He also had a flamboyant onstage style and it is said that Jimi Hendrix might have seen Walker playing the guitar with his teeth, which led to that becoming a regular part of Hendrix’s wild concert persona. Walker also wrote “Stormy Monday,” and if nothing else, that blues classic gave him immortality past his death in 1975.

Thanks to Jim Easton for the list of blues songs for today’s CHOOSE YOUR BLUES segment! He’s been listening for over ten years and wanted to give back. Thank you Jim. We’ve got a T-shirt heading your way! Get your own list of 5 songs or so to carter@wzlx.com and maybe we’ll get those on the air soon!
