Summoner are a four piece stoner rock band from Boston who draw on such influences as Black Sabbath, Neurosis, Hawkwind, Torche, Dead Meadow, Pink Floyd, Thin Lizzy, Queens of the Stone Age, Led Zeppelin, and Pentagram.
Conceived in 2007 as Riff Cannon, the band quickly began making a name for themselves in the Boston area.
Their first release was a four song EP simply titled Riff Cannon. With 2009 came their Mercury Mountain release, still under the Riff Cannon moniker, of which Glam Rock Gorilla wrote included, “an avalanche of riffs.”
The band spent the next two years touring throughout the Northeast and readied their second full length, Phoenix, for an early 2012 release. It was at that time that the band was under much deliberation to make a name change.
As 2012 began, so did the newly named Summoner. Their second full length, Atlantian, was released in the fall of 2013 on the Albany label, Magnetic Eye Records.
