September 14, 1978 marks the first day of shooting for the Grateful Dead’s famous concert Rocking the Cradle: Egypt 1978. Above is the full show.

Some may believe that the show actually took place inside the Great Pyramids or some other zany location, but it was actually filmed at the Gizah Sound & Light Theater in Cairo, Egypt. The venue was very close to those historical landmarks, though.

Even though the shows took place 25 years ago, the DVD version didn’t come out until 2008 due to most of the audio from the shows being unusable. Perhaps the total lunar eclipse that occurred during the closing show helped make the audio work through some kind of weird magic that only the Grateful Dead can create.
