On this day (May 14) in 1988, Led Zeppelin‘s surviving members reunited for a one-off performance as part of Atlantic Records’ 40th anniversary concert on HBO. Jason Bonham filled in on drums for his late father John in joining Robert Plant, Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones.

Plant described the performance as “foul”, Page said it was “one big disappointment” and the guys even argued over whether to play “Stairway to Heaven”. But the reunion still felt pretty damn good for Zeppelin fans.

Other performers at the show included Genesis (plus a bonus performance of Phil Collins’ solo classic “In The Air Tonight”), Crosby, Stills & Nash, Yes, The Blues Brothers and many others.
