The Daily Pravda are a Boston rock band, formed in 2005 with the intention of “doing to Ziggy Stardust what Oasis did to the Beatles.” Thankfully, that never happened. Over the years, they have added surf rock and new wave synth to the mix, while never quite ditching the Bowie.
Other Pravda influences include Sunny Day Real Estate, Suede, Grandaddy, Pulp, and fellow Bostonians, the Pixies. The Daily Pravda sound is characterized by simple melodic hooks, tongue-in-cheek lyrics, and heavily layered sonic arrangements with generous amounts of harmonies. Recently the band has also been experimenting with slide guitar, electronic loops, saxophone solos, and elements of Do-wop and Soul. The Daily Pravda’s anticipated second full-length record, Columbia, is set for release in April 2013.
The Daily Pravda are David Jackel on vocals and guitar, Adam Anderson on guitar, synth, and vocals, Tom Roppelt on guitar, saxophone, vocals, percussion, and synth, Mike Gonzales on bass, Ken Marcou on drums.
