This week on Sunday Morning Blues, we featured another song from the James Montgomery Band’s brand new album, “From Detroit to the Delta.” Last week, you might remember, we featured “Little Johnnie,” a tribute to Johnny Winter that featured the man himself on slide guitar, plus Joey Kramer and Brad Whitford from Aerosmith!
This week we spun the infectious “Intoxicated,” with a welcome visit from The Upton Horns (whom you might remember from many J.Geils Performance back in the day!). This is the first James Montgomery album since 2001, although the harmonica player has been featured on many recordings by other artists. As on the last solo album, “Bring it on Home,” James Cotton, one of Montgomery’s mentors, makes a repeat visit with his smokin’ harp!
Lest we get too carried away with mentioning special guests, let’s take note of the fine Montgomery Band. On the guitar, its the always-impressive George McCann, David Hull (once a temporary replacement for Tom Hamilton in Aerosmith) handles the bass, and Seth Pappas drums with the best! Look for a lot more from this album to get on Sunday Morning Blues because we love EVERY TRACK! How often does that happen?
Oh, and thank you to Brian Jeffrey from Derry, HH for the fine CHOOSE YOUR BLUES list! “Dig that crazy hand jive!” Well done!
