Happy birthday to Robin Zander from Cheap Trick! How many studio albums did the band release before “Live at Budokan” made Cheap trick a platinum success?

Answer: Three

Here’s the rest of today’s Rock N’ Roll Diary!

  • 1978: Terry Kath, the guitarist for Chicago, died after accidently shooting himself. The 32-year old was playing with a gun at a party and he turned it on himself, thinking it was unloaded.
  • 1986: The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame held its first induction dinner in New York City. The first inductees included Elvis Presley, Buddy Holly, James Brown, Chuck Berry, Jerry Lee Lewis and The Everly Brothers.
  • 1990: Allen Collins of Lynyrd Skynyrd died of pneumonia. The guitarist survived the band’s 1977 plane crash and also a 1986 car wreck which killed his girlfriend and left him paralyzed from the waist down.
  • 2004: Former Jethro Tull keyboardist David Palmer announced he’d had a sex change operation and now preferred to be called “Dee”.
  • Checking the WZLX Ticket Stash: Alice Cooper played the Worcester Memorial Auditorium in 1988.
