This week, the show began with a birthday tribute to legendary harp player and lead singer Kim Wilson. After breaking out of Austin, Texas in the late 70′s, Kim went on to be a frequent guest on dozens of blues and rock releases, including a few of Ronnie Earl’s albums.
Wilson still fronts the Thunderbirds when they convene for recording or touring and somehow finds time to put together the occasional solo album! We played the title track from his “Tigerman” album and also a track he cut with Jimmy Rogers’ All-stars, a unit that included Eric Clapton, Stephen Stills, Mick Jagger and Keith Richards, among others. Jimmy was a guitarist from Chicago who passed away as this CD was being finished. “Blues Blues Blues” is indispensable in your collection!
We also had to play some Elvis Presley since the Blues and Country music inspired him to take the next step into rock and roll. After all, its the King’s birthday on January 8th!
