Twenty-seven people are dead, including 20 children, after a gunman opened fire at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn. Families and citizens of Newtown are still only beginning to mourn their losses as the world struggles to understand the unspeakable violence that took place Friday morning.
President Obama spoke on the tragedy live in Newtown Sunday night, where he assured grieving families they are “not alone” in their grief. Newtown is currently planning funerals as the town braces for the burial of the first of the 20 young victims – and continues to debate when classes should resume at Sandy Hook.
