Janis Joplin played the Music Hall today in 1969. She had just released her first solo album after being in Big Brother & the Holding Company. What was the name of the album?

Answer: I Got Dem Ol’ Kozmic Blues Again Mama!

Here’s the rest of today’s Rock N’ Roll Diary!

  • 1970: John Lennon and Yoko Ono’s group, The Plastic Ono Band, releases two albums. One album features music by John, while the other features Yoko’s work. The album covers were nearly identical except for one twist. Both show the pair sitting against a tree, but their positions were reversed on each other’s albums.
  • 1972: Genesis makes its American concert debut right here in the Boston area at Brandeis University.
  • 1976: KISS guitarist Ace Frehley is nearly electrocuted during a concert in Florida. He touched a short-circuited light while playing his guitar. Ace was carried offstage, but returns ten minutes later to finish the show.
  • 1988: Don Henley, Tom Petty, and Graham Nash put on a benefit show at the Wiltern Theater in Los Angeles to pay tribute to the late Roy Orbison.
