Sunday Morning Blues: 12/09/2012

Carter Alan /

This week on Sunday Morning Blues, we began with a birthday tribute to one of the Blues greatest harmonica players, Junior Wells. He was a great singer too, and his long career featured much solo work, sessions with a myriad of artists and an extended (and fruitful) musical partnership with Buddy Guy.

No Blues collection is complete without a copy of Buddy Guy and Jr. Wells 1972 album Play the Blues, much of which was recorded right here in Boston at Intermedia Sound Studio (where Aerosmith recorded their debut) and featured Eric Clapton with his Dominos backing the duo up, as well as our own J. Geils Band. Jr. Wells passed away in 1998, but left a wealth of great music to check out. Most recently, he was seen in the newly-released Rolling Stones/Muddy Waters “Live at the Checkerboard Lounge 1981” CD and DVD.
