Her presence is almost as powerful as her singing voice, and her look is iconic. Janis Joplin is always a great choice for a Halloween costume, but you need to bring the right look – and most importantly, the swagger!
1. Long hippie hair

(AP Photo)
Janis always performed with her super-long hair blowing in the wind, and if you don’t have hair that goes at least beyond your shoulders you will need a wig! If you have long curly hair, just straighten it. You can make it look messy if you want.
2. Bell-bottom pants

The bell-bottom style is ideal if you want to look like Janis Joplin, but anything straight from the ’60s would do just fine.
3. Hippie shirt

Something like the shirt in the above picture with the wizard-sleeves on the arms is almost exactly what Janis used to wear all the time. This shirt with a flower design would be perfect – and there’s plenty of different designs to choose from online.
4. Hippie sunglasses

These glasses Stevie Nicks is wearing in the above photo is pretty close to what you need: something round and colorful. A pair that looks more like it came from the ’60s – like, say, these Janis Joplin sunglasses – would be ideal.
5. Plenty of jewelry

Bracelets, necklaces, rings…Don’t stop at just 10! Janis was always covered with bling, so you should spare no expense in this department.
