Last week, the Kennedy Center announced that Led Zeppelin would be honored at their annual Kennedy Center Honors ceremony. This morning, the band confirmed, via a press release, that they will attend the prestigious event, which takes place in Washington, D.C. on December 3 (and which airs on CBS on December 26).
The press release announced a press conference that the surviving members – guitarist Jimmy Page, singer Robert Plant and bass player/keyboardist John Paul Jones – will attend in London today at 1:30 pm local time (which is 8:30 am Eastern Time). That press conference is to promote Celebration Day, the live album and film documenting the band’s now-legendary one-off 2007 reunion concert from England’s O2 Arena.
Celebration Day was announced last week after much hype, and this morning’s press release has revealed the multiple formats that will be available. There will be a “standard edition,” which will be either 2 CDs/1DVD or 2 CDs/1 Blu-ray. A “deluxe edition” will feature 2 DVDs/2 CDs or 1 Blu-Ray/1 DVD/2 CDs, and will contain bonus content, including video footage of the rehearsals. There will be a 2 CD version with just music, and a music-only Blu-ray edition featuring only the audio on Blu-ray. If you’re a vinyl fanatic, there will be a 3 LP version, and the audio will be available for paid download at all digital retail outlets. All versions of Celebration Day will be available November 19. The film will have limited worldwide screenings on October 17. See Led Zeppelin’s website for more details.
CBS Local will be at the press conference in London, and will have a report shortly afterward.
