After the Beatles’ brief February ’64 visit to the U.S., where they played the Ed Sullivan Show and a handful of introductory dates in the U.S., the band returned in the late summer for their first extended and proper tour of America.
This was the first Beatles appearance in Boston and after skipping the Hub on the 1965 U.S. tour, the group would only play here one more time – on the 1966 US tour, at Suffolk Downs racetrack. Incidentally, that would be the final Beatles tour ever.
The Beatles late summer ’64 tour went from August 19 to September 20 and the Beatles played Jacksonville the day before the Boston show. They barely got out Florida, as the passing of Hurricane Dora threatened to delay their flight.
