Despite rampant rumors to the contrary, Pink Floyd will not be performing at the Olympics Closing Ceremonies on August 12.
While drummer Nick Mason will be playing with pop singer Ed Sheeran on a performance of Floyd’s “Wish You Were Here,” neither of the other surviving members of the band — bassist/singer Roger Waters and guitarist/singer David Gilmour — will participate in the event. To end any confusion over the matter, the band just issued a press statement, simply saying “In response to press speculation, Pink Floyd state that the band is NOT performing at the Closing Ceremony of the London 2012 Olympic Games.”
Sheeran fueled speculation that other members of the legendary group would when he told an Australian radio station that he was performing with Mason but “they’re trying to get someone else” from the band to join them.
