Fans at the Bank of America Pavilion on the waterfront were treated to a couple of rock & roll legends Wednesday night, as Joe Cocker headlined while Huey Lewis & The News opened the festivities.

A review from the MetroWest Daily News described Cocker’s performance as “a rocking inferno from the first note,” not surprising considering his gritty yet powerful singing voice. The review also noted his famous covers “You Are So Beautiful” and Ray Charles’ “Unchain My Heart” as standouts, and described his rendition of The Beatles’ “With a Little Help From My Friends” was a “virtual symphony.”

The review lamented Huey Lewis’ opening-act performance as lacking the visceral punch of Cocker’s set, but it’s hard to top one of the most famously gruff singing voices in terms of power. The 10-piece band still rocked the place though, according to the review, which noted “Jacob’s Ladder” as a highlight of the set.

Now we turn it over to the fans! Twitter had plenty to say about the show. Reactions ranged from decent…

…to awesome.

One fan apparently had a nice birthday present with some live summer night music.

And the fact that the sun was still out while Huey Lewis performed apparently didn’t stop him from putting on a great show.

This fan was pleasantly surprised by Lewis’ set:

And this fan believes there ought to be a mathematical equation for how cool Huey Lewis is:

Huey helped prove her theory with a tweet of his own from @Huey_Lewis_News showing his gratitude for the city.
