Buddy Guy turns 76 on Monday 7/30, so we celebrated with a set of the guitarist’s choice performances to start the show. And don’t forget about that fabulous voice of his; it remains undimished by time. The first song was an unbelievable session from 1991, “Early in the Morning,” featuring Buddy with Eric Clapton AND Jeff Beck.

You can find it on the “Damn Right I Got the Blues,” an album that also won a Grammy back then. We moved from the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer to play a couple of songs from late guitarist Mike Bloomfield, who was a blues wunderkind in the Butterfield Blues Band, Electric Flag and on many recordings with Al Kooper. His birthday was Saturday the 28th. Mike Bloomfield died back in 1981 from a drug overdose.

We played some J.Geils Band and also a track featuring guitarist Jay Geils with Jeff Pitchell from Pitchell’s brand new album “American Girl.” Yes, it is true: Jay Geils will not be playing in the lineup of the J.Geils Band as they tour this late summer. Can they do that? I guess so.
