Before Gillette Stadium, there was Foxboro Stadium. And before Bruce Springsteen, there was Paul McCartney. The Beatles legend embarked on a massive stadium world tour in 1989 and 1990, which stopped in Foxboro for three straight nights of classic after classic at the venue then known as Sullivan Stadium. July 26 marks the anniversary of the third and final night Paul played Foxboro Stadium in 1990.

Foxboro was the only American city to host McCartney for more than two nights of the tour. He also played the Worcester Centrum (now the DCU Center) for two nights in February, 1990. Three of the final four shows of the tour came at Foxboro, with the conclusion coming at Soldier Field in Chicago.

Despite the Paul McCartney World Tour being the first of his career as a solo artist and coming on the heels of his then-new solo LP Flowers in the Dirt, the main purpose of the tour was to honor his legacy as a member of the Beatles. It was the first tour for McCartney in a decade and the first ever to feature mostly Beatles songs in the set list. According to Macca-Central.com, the set list for Foxboro spanned 29 songs and was filled with Beatles staples like “Eleanor Rigby,” “Yesterday,” and “Hey Jude.”

A user at Guitars101.com claims to have a bootlegged recording of the actual show – the set lists seem to line up! Check it out if you’re interested in hearing. Fans at the show also received an exclusive tour booklet that was handed out at every stop of the tour.
