Re-Machined: A Tribute to Deep Purple's Machine Head

One of the pioneering records of heavy metal music, Deep Purple’s Machine Head influenced countless future rock musicians. Many of those influenced by the album are now giving back, as Metallica, Iron Maiden and others have contributed covers of each track on the classic LP as part of Re-Machined: A Tribute to Deep Purple’s “Machine Head.”

Classic Rock Magazine will include the tribute album as part of their own Deep Purple fanpack, which also includes a 124-page special edition of the magazine containing interviews with the bands that worked on the album, plus the surviving members of Deep Purple itself who will describe the making of their most beloved work.

Potential highlights on the tribute album include Carlos Santana’s take on “Smoke On the Water” and Iron Maiden’s own version of “Space Truckin’.” Metallica will close the album with a cover of “When a Blind Man Cries,” which originally appeared as a B-side to the “Never Before” single.

Other artists appearing on the album include Chickenfoot, The Flaming Lips (who also cover “Smoke On The Water”), Glenn Hughes and Chad Smith, and Steve Vai, whose cover of “Highway Star” appears as a bonus track on the special edition of the LP.

Are you excited about this new Deep Purple tribute? What cover are you looking forward to the most?
