On this day in 1972, the one and only Rolling Stones came to the Boston Garden for back-to-back nights and arrived in quite a dramatic fashion.

This concert will always be remembered not for the amazing music, but for the wild turn of events that led to Boston Mayor Kevin White bailing Keith Richards and Mick Jagger out of jail in Rhode Island and rushing them to the show.

The rock duo and members of their entourage had been involved in an altercation with a photographer earlier that day and were subsequently arrested and put in jail.  Mayor White realized the potential for riots and violence to break out if the show did not go on and made the famous decision to lend a helping hand and bail the rock legends out.

The show went off without a hitch just a short while after the scheduled start time and it was the epic show everyone had expected.  While video footage of the concert is unavailable, here is a clip of the Stones from the same tour singing their hit song, Happy.
