So last night was the 83rd MLB All Star Game, in which the American League squad was shutout 8-0 by the National League.

We’ve already asked you to vote for your Boston Music All Star, but now it’s time to broaden the scope a little bit and crown the starting lineup for an All-Time Rock N’ Roll All Star team — from singer all the way down to drummer.

Starter: Freddie Mercury – Considered by many to be the greatest rock n’ roll frontman of all time, his charisma, stage presence, songwriting and vocal range made him the total package. He’s our choice for starting vocals.

Backup(s): Robert Plant, Jim Morrison

Starter: Jimi Hendrix – You’d be hard-pressed to find a “Best Guitarist List,” whether on internet, television or in print, that doesn’t have Jimi Hendrix right at the top. His innovation on the guitar inspired, and will continue to inspire, generations of musicians for years to come.

Backup(s): Eric Clapton, Eddie Van Halen

Bass

Starter: John Entwistle - Entwistle innovated and popularized a variety of playing styles and was one of the first to really feature bass leads prominently in songs. Simply put, Entwistle was the first bassist to make you really stand up and notice the instrument in rock & roll.

Backup(s): John Paul Jones, Geddy Lee, Cliff Burton

Drums

Starter: Keith Moon – Moon noticed that The Who’s on-stage intensity wasn’t being matched by their first series of drummers. So at a show early in the band’s career, he walked right up to the drummer at the time and told him he was better.

Impressed by his boldness, Roger Daltrey invited him on stage to finish the show, and then proceeded to wreck the drum set with fiery passion. Once the dust cleared, Pete Townshend turned to Daltrey and said “I think we’ve found a drummer” — and the rest is history.

Backup(s): Neil Peart, John Bonham
