With ¡Uno!, the first of Green Day‘s three album, ¡Uno!, ¡Dos! and ¡Tre!, in stores starting this fall, the threesome have announced they’ll release documentaries to support the albums’ release.
The first of the two films will be directed by Tim Lynch and Tim Wheeler. Lynch produced the Green Day: Bullet In A Bible DVD while Wheeler co-produced by The White Stripes Under Great White Northern Lights. The two directors will come together to document the making of the band’s upcoming album trilogy. The second of two films will be comprised of footage from the band’s early days, prior to Dookie, their first commercial success.
“It’s not going to be the sitting down, head shot of me going, “We started out blah blah blah,” explains Billie Joe Armstrong to Billboard. “We wanted to get into lifestyles of rock ‘n’ roll and playing rock ‘n’ roll and letting the story kind of tell itself rather than create revisionist history.”
Green Day’s first single from the upcoming album ¡Uno!, titled “Oh Love,” is scheduled for release on July 16th, with the full album following on Sept. 25th. The band will play a handful of festivals this fall including New Orleans’ Voodoo Festival.
