From Breakfast with the Beatles

Paul McCartney has long used his legendary status as a platform to raise awareness for a variety of different issues. The 70-year-old is now advocating a new cause: Meat Free Mondays.

Sir Paul has championed a number of different animal rights topics throughout the years, including: Speaking out against China’s fur trade, promoting vegetarianism, calling on Canada to ban seal hunting, and many others.

While “Meat Free Mondays” on the onset seems to fit under the “animal rights” umbrella, it’s actually more of a “Go Green” initiative.

In this new video designed for educating school children, McCartney explains the many reasons we should cut down on our meat consumption — the main reason being that livestock production accounts for 18% of our global greenhouse emissions, which contributes to accelerating climate change.

McCartney describes MFM as an “accessible idea that it isn’t that difficult to do,” and it “gives us some way of helping to save our future, helping to save this planet and helping to avoid the catastrophes that climate change could cause.”
