Kenny Wayne Shepherd had a birthday leading up to this week’s show, so we began with a set dedicated to the Louisiana guitarist who turned 35 on June 12. Shepherd bagan his career at a very young age, burning up the blues and rock and roll circuit with the incredible “Ledbetter Heights” in 1997. If you want to get into this fantastic player’s catalogue, the best place to start is that album and also the semi-documentary “10 Days Out, Blues from the Backroads.”

Thank you Jack Silva for your excellent CHOOSE YOUR BLUES list. we had to dig deep for the Mississippi Fred McDowell tune, but found it on a vinyl album which used to be part of the wondferful WBCN blues library. Thanks to CBS, we’ve been allowed to access that legendary library that Peter Wolf and many other early ‘BCN jocks used, for Sunday Morning Blues!
