No industry in the world is without its fair share of famous fathers. The music world is no different. Some classic rock dads have children who have also gone on to become famous in their own right, while others tend to keep their families and children out of the spotlight.
Here are 20 of the biggest names in classic rock who have children to spend Father’s Day with this weekend.
Steven Tyler
Children: Liv (pictured), Mia, Chelsea and Taj
Steven Tyler is obviously a rock & roll legend as the frontman of Aerosmith, but his daughter Liv has also enjoyed a nice career of her own in showbiz, having appeared in over 20 movies including the Lord of the Rings trilogy.
Bob Seger
Children: Cole and Samantha
Seger’s son Cole (full name Christopher Cole) isn’t necessarily famous like his father is, but he is part of a nationally ranked marching band that Bob sees at high school football games near his home in suburban Detroit.
Alice Cooper
Children: Calico (pictured), Dash and Sonora Rose
Alice’s oldest daughter Calico performs as part of the Alice Cooper stage show and has since 2000. His son Dash is also in a band, performing with Runaway Phoenix.
Joe Perry
Children: Adrian, Tony and Roman
Joe Perry’s sons Adrian and Tony are founding members of the rock group TAB The Band, who have performed at major music festivals and experienced commercial success on rock radio.
Ozzy Osbourne
Children: Elliot, Jessica, Louis, Aimee, Kelly (pictured) and Jack (pictured)
Ozzy does have four children from previous marriages, but it’s his son jack and daughter Kelly (from his current marriage to Sharon Osbourne) who are by far the most well-known. They originally thrust into the spotlight on the reality show The Osbournes, and Jack has since had success as a producer/director while Kelly has succeeded as a singer, actress, author and fashion designer.
Bono
Children: Jordan, Memphis Eve, Elijah Bob and John Abraham
While most of Bono’s children are out of the spotlight, daughter Memphis Eve (known professionally as Eve Hewson) is an actress who has appeared in six films since 2005.
The Edge
Children: Daughters Hollie, Arran and Blue Angel
The Edge (real name David Howell Evans) of U2 has three daughters from his first marriage, who have mostly remained out of the public eye.
Mick Jagger
Children: Daughters Karis, Jade, Elizabeth, Georgia; Sons James, Gabriel, Lucas
Jagger is well-known for his many relationships, which have resulted in seven children with four different women. His daughter Jade is a successful jewelry designer, while oldest daughter Elizabeth is a famous model and actress.
Sammy Hagar
Children: Aaron, Andrew, Kama, Samantha
Sammy’s two sons are from his first marriage, while his daughters Kama and Samantha are from his marriage to his current wife, Kari Karte.
David Gilmour
Children: Alice, Clare, Sara, Matthew, Joe, Gabriel, Romany, Charlie (adopted)
The legendary Pink Floyd guitarist has fathered seven children from two marriages, and adopted another. Unfortunately, adopted son Charlie is famous for going to jail for violent behavior during a student protest in London.
Paul McCartney
Children: Heather, Mary, Stella (pictured), James and Beatrice
Paul’s daughter Mary is a successful photographer while Stella is a famous fashion designer. Son James is following in his dad’s footsteps as a musician with three solo EPs out in the past two years.
Ringo Starr
Children: Zak, Jason, Lee (daughter)
Ringo has three children from his first marriage to his late wife Maureen Cox. Son Zak is also a drummer, having played with the band Oasis.
Neil Young
Children: Zeke, Ben and Amber Jean (pictured)
Young’s son Ben suffers from cerebral palsy, while his daughter Amber Jean suffers from epilepsy (like him). His children’s life battles have inspired him to found the Bridge School, which supports children with severe physical and mental disabilities.
Bob Dylan
Children: Jesse, Anna Lea, Samuel, Jakob Luke, Desiree and Gabrielle
Bob’s oldest son Jesse is a successful film director and businessman, while Jakob Dylan is perhaps the most famous of his children as the frontman for the rock band The Wallflowers. One of Jakob’s most famous songs is a cover of David Bowie’s “Heroes.”
Keith Richards
Children: Marlon, Angela, Tara (son), Alexandra and Theodora
Keith’s son Marlon (named after Marlon Brando) isn’t “famous” in the traditional sense, but he’s known for growing up on the road with Keith and the Rolling Stones. He’s grown up to raise a family of his own and experience success as an art gallery curator and photographer/graphic artist.
Gregg Allman
Children: Devon, Elijah, Delilah, Michael, Layla
Allman has five children from five different marriages. His sons Elijah and Michael have fronted their own bands, while daughter Layla sings for the band Picture Me Broken.
Eddie Van Halen
Children: Wolfgang (pictured)
Eddie’s son Wolfgang, named after legendary composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, has made a name for himself as a bassist, performing with, well, Van Halen!
Joe Walsh
Children: Lucy and Emma Kristen
Walsh’s daughter Emma Kristen tragically died at the age of 3 in a car accident, which inspired Walsh’s “Song For Emma.” His other daughter, Lucy Walsh, is an accomplished pianist, singer-songwriter, actress and screenwriter.
John Mellencamp
Children: Michelle, Teddi Jo, Justice, Hud and Speck
Mellencamp’s five children come from three separate marriages. Oldest daughter Michelle was born from his first marriage to Priscilla Esterline.
Bruce Springsteen
Children: Evan, Jessica (pictured) and Samuel
Bruce’s eldest son Evan is currently a student at Boston College, which results in occasional visits from Dad in the Boston area. Daughter Jessica is an accomplished equestrian at Duke University.
