A picture has surfaced online, which supposedly shows ZZ Top in 1971 – either before or after they played a high school prom.

There’s a legend behind this picture. We don’t know if it’s true, but it goes like this: ZZ Top booked the show before the release of their debut album in January of 1971.

The album got some attention, especially the single, “(Somebody Else Been) Shakin’ Your Tree”, which made some noise on the Billboard Hot 100.

When it came time to do the prom, they tried to get out of it, but the school couldn’t find anyone else on short notice, so the band agreed to go ahead with it. Since they were starting to get big at the time, a lot of fans tried CRASHING the prom.

None of this has been confirmed officially – but some people who went to the school, Little Cypress-Mauriceville High School in Orange, Texas, say it happened.
