To celebrate, we started off the show with a set of bluesy running songs! “Roadrunner” by Bo Diddley is from 1959 – he’s one of the giants of the blues and rock and roll, and this version was the first of hundreds of cover versions.

Joe Bonamassa has a brand new album coming out on May 22nd, you heard a sneak peak called “Stones in My Passway.” That Robert Johnson cover began a set dedicated to the legendary late bluesman who’s 101st birthday is May 8th. Chuck Leavell of the Allman Brothers Band and the Rolling stones lends his prodigious piano-playing skils to a new solo album called “Back to the Woods,” in which he pays tribute to the great jazz and blues piano legends of the past.

“Boots and Shoes” was his tremendous homage to Otis Spann, who was a solo artist and also Muddy Waters principle player back in the 60′s. Oh yeah, Keith Richards and John Mayer show up to help Leavell out!

Thanks to the one and only Al Kooper for calling in and chatting. He picked one of his recent tracks and then we filled in a nice set of Kooper performances for a celebrity edition of CHOOSE YOUR BLUES!
