Happy birthday to Otis Rush! This seminal singer/songwriter and guitarist is still with us, but he rarely has performed after a stroke several years ago. Otis was the man whose version of “I Can’t Quit you Babe” mesmerized a young Robert Plant, and his “Homework” was co-opted by an eager J. Geils Band. “Double Trouble” is a highly-covered slow blues and his “All Your Love” with its distnctive guitar riff has been covered by John Mayall (with Clapton on guitar, no less), Steve Miller and many others. So, happy birthday Otis – we dedicated the first set to you!

Thank you to Cathy Soper for a fine CHOOSE YOUR BLUES list, which included the haunting guitar of Robin Trower on “I Want to Take you With Me.” This song is from 2004 and it’s a great track to play to someone if they think Trower’s glory days left him when he left the 70′s!
