Aerosmith keeps reminding us that with producer Jack Douglas, their upcoming album due out later this spring will be “getting back to their roots” – which is puzzling because I’m pretty sure they never needed an American Idol back in their heyday.

Former American Idol contestant and last year’s runner up Lauren Alaina will sing back up vocals, this according to a recent Twitter update.
She tweeted:
Yesterday: returned to idol & then went to the studio to record background vocals for the new Aerosmith record. #ISTHISREAL?Thank u Steven!

I wonder how the other Aerosmith members are taking this newfound, continued alliance with Idol? It’s well known that when Steven Tyler first joined the show as a judge, the other bandmates were not pleased at all.
However, since Tyler joined Idol, Aerosmith’s sales have skyrocketed to new heights…but at what cost?
In my opinion with this whole Aerosmith/American Idol connection, Steven Tyler has not only run the risk of alienating his true fans, but his own bandmates as well.
After all, Brad Whitford hinted just last week that if it weren’t for American Idol their new album would be out already.
What do you make of this latest news, that the new Aerosmith album will feature a former Idol contestant?
