Happy birthday to Ian Hunter of Mott the Hoople and the late Billy Powell of Lynyrd Skynyrd. Prior to joining the band, what was Powell’s job?

Answer: Roadie

1964:  Ringo Starr was rushed to the hospital after collapsing during a Beatles photo shoot.  He suffered from acute tonsillitis and required complete bed rest and quiet for 11 days.  Ringo was replaced by drummer Jimmy Nicol during a tour of Europe and Asia and rejoined the band mid-June in Australia.

1972: The Rolling Stones began their seventeenth tour with a performance at the Canadian Pacific Coliseum in Vancouver, British Columbia.

1998: Van Halen cancelled a show at the Docks Club in Hamburg, Germany, after a piece of ceiling plaster fell and hit Alex Van Halen during sound check.  He suffered a bruised arm.

2000: Allman Brothers band guitarist Dickey Betts was arrested after destroying the living room of his Florida home and threatening his wife with a knife. He disappeared immediately after the incident, and when police found him, they put him in a psychiatric unit.

Checking the WZLX ticket stash:

1978: It was the Charlie Daniels band, The Cars, and Southside Johnny and The Asbury Jukes at the Cape Cod Coliseum.

1979: Ted Nugent rocked the Boston Garden.
