Tampa Police on Tuesday arrested a Lowry Park Zoo volunteer on suspicion of molesting a 9-year-old boy in one of the park’s bathrooms.
Cameron James Spurback, 21, remains in jail. If what he’s accused of doing isn’t bad enough, Spurback suffers from elephantiasis, and his mugshot might be one of the most unsettling we’ve ever posted.
Police said the boy went into the bathroom at 2:15 p.m. and was approached by Spurback, who allegedly pulled down the child’s pants and fondled him.
“The defendant then pulled down his own pants and fondled himself in the presence of the child,” McElroy said in a news release. “The child fled the bathroom and told his parents.”
The child’s parents flagged down zoo security, who then contacted police. Spurback was detained as he came out of the bathroom, McElroy said.
“A detective interviewed the defendant, who admitted to this offense,” she said. “The child was not injured and he positively identified the suspect.”
Spurback had just finished his shift at the zoo, McElroy said. He does not have a criminal history.
