A UK newspaper reported this week that Steve Perry was trying to get back into Journey. (Story) Apparently, that conversation never happened.

[photogallerylink id=40690 align=right]Journey guitarist Neal Schon told the paper, “He’s no longer the lead singer – he walked out.” The article included speculation that Perry surprised members of the group by asking to return.  But a spokesperson for Perry tells RockAAA, “It’s just not true. The story came from London, the home of tabloids – they make up stories every day. Steve is enjoying his retirement.”

In 2007, when rumors spread of Perry returning to the group, Perry said, “I want to go on record as saying I have no such plans whatsoever. What you have heard is a rumour – I’m sorry for any disappointment.”

Steve Perry seems so content in his retirement. It’s as if he
has been trying to get back to a sense of normalcy and now that he has, he doesn’t want to mess it up. While I love and respect all members of Journey, I think they need Steve more than he needs them. I think this is nothing but hype.

More power to ya Stevie baby…go out and live life and enjoy your retirement, God knows you’ve earned it!! Still love you, always will, no matter what. Your music lives on, and your voice still makes me all warm and fuzzy inside. Thank you for all those wonderful years of being on that stage for all of us fans. –Rebecca
